Nicholas Sanders is a founding partner of The Political Law Group. Nicholas assists consultants, public officials, candidates, nonprofits, corporations, law firms and lobbyists navigate California’s political and election laws. He provides his clients plain-language legal counsel to decipher the complex laws and regulations that govern campaigns, ballot measures, PACs, lobbying and governmental ethics across all levels of government.
Nicholas’s practice ranges from campaign general counsel services to appellate litigation. He has drafted dozens of ballot measures, including numerous special taxes and assisted public officials and candidates from San Francisco to the State Capitol. His litigation expertise has protected his clients’ ballot designations and ballot arguments, has vindicated his clients’ rights to run for office, has removed injurious language from ballot pamphlets and even invalidated entire ballot measures.
Prior to co-founding TPLG, Nicholas spent a decade in private practice specializing in political and election law. He has worked at the California Fair Political Practices Commission and the Federal Election Commission. Prior to law school, he spent three years preparing campaign finance and lobbying reports for a leading political law firm.
Nicholas is a double Aggie, holding both a J.D. and B.A. from UC Davis.
